COVID WILL CHANGE HOW AND WHERE WE LIVE AND WORK AND PLAY

In this month’s Biscayne Times, I look at what Miami architects, urban planners and developers are thinking in light of COVID-19. It could be as simple as closing a street to give shops and restaurants more space. It could verge on the apocalyptic by designing family compounds protected by private guards.

Interviews include Andres Duany, Lizz Plater-Zyberk, Luis Ajamil and Related Group.

Duany is at one extreme — suggesting that we may be in for massive disruptions that will effect urban planning and residence design for ever. Others believe that the pandemic is just extending already existing trends, such as reduced need for office and retail space.
